Flash Player Preview Features Mac Hardware Acceleration

A Flash Player preview release, code-named Gala, has been posted to Adobe Labs. This Flash Player introduces support for H.264 video hardware decoding on Mac OS X 10.6.3 (the most recent release of Mac OS X Snow Leopard). The hardware acceleration functionality in the Gala preview release of Flash Player is expected to be included in an update following the release of Flash Player 10.1.

Ben, I sure hope Adobe responds to Mr. Jobs letter painting Flash as the pond scum of software. I think Adobe’s response can be quite simple: There are two types of devices in the world:
    1) Those that give the owner of the device the discretion to view the content or run the apps or even create the content for it in ways that they choose. Examples include your radio, tv, computer, refrigerator, etc.
    2) The iPad/iPhone where Apple has the discretion to make all of those decisions.
Could billions of device consumers around the world be wrong about wanting that discretion? Apple thinks so.
