Story on ZDNet about the “circling mob of domain prospectors wait at the bottom of the domain drop, waiting to snap up any choice names, then resell them”. Chase Manhattan lost carfinancing.com because no one renewed the domain, and others have fallen victim too. This one is worth a quick read, see http://reviews-zdnet.com.com/4520-6028_16-5131681.html.

  1. Domain prospectors deserve a place in hell right next to the spammers. The worst offenders are places like BuyDomains.com that are also domain registrars — talk about conflict of interest. A market economy is supposed to be about adding value, but these companies literally subtract value from the economy. It’s particularly egregious when registrars do it because they have essentially $0 cost associated with holding the domain indefinitely.
