MX 2004: New Versions of Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks

Home » MX 2004: New Versions of Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks

Macromedia announced MX 2004 today, new versions of Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks (http://www.macromedia.com/software/mx2004/). Flash now comes in two editions, Flash MX (the update to Flash MX) and Flash MX Professional (a brand new Flash with a development model that will appeal to us application coders, see http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/flashpro/development/). I am working on a few CF/Flash Pro integration articles to be posted in the next few weeks, stay tuned.

Any word on an update to the poor cousin, HS+? We need debugging back!

Yeah I’d be interested in hearing about HS+. Dreamweaver is a fine product but not one I like to code CF in.

HomeSite 5.5 is in the works, it is an upgrade to the current HomeSite 5.2.
As for debugging, HomeSite never had that, CF Studio did. And I don’t believe that that will be coming back.

    Ben,
Don’t you think it’s a bit odd (if not embarrassing;) for Macromedia not to offer an IDE that supports debugging for MX? As a developer, this is my biggest disappointment with what is otherwise a very good product line. I’d guess there are a lot of us old-fashioned CF hand-coders who feel the same way about losing this functionality, and CF Studio as well.

I couldn’t care less about debugging just like the simple-ness of Studio/HomeSite and all the tricks I’ve picked up over the years that save me time.

    Oliver,
There is a new HS+ too, it’ll be included with DreamWeaver like it was before.
And as for debugging … I sympathize, I used to use the Studio debugger too. But when the DW team surveys the CF base (and they did speak to a large number of CF users) almost no one used the debugger (or even knew how to). So when they prioritized features the debugger was not made a high priority. I hope this will change in the future, but this has not changed in DWMX 2004.
