This is an annoying one, but you should know it anyway. The options in the Application window in Dreamweaver MX will be grayed out (and inaccessible) unless a file is open – any file, not necessarily a file in the site you are working on. If you need to browse a database or introspect a component make sure a file is open. (Applies to: Dreamweaver MX)
