Ryan Hartwich, of the Kansas City CFUG, has created an application to help MAX attendees find roommates. This one is powered by ColdFusion MX 7, and uses Flash Forms and PDF/FlashPaper generation.

    Again!!!
Great idea for an app, but again Flash Forms hinder the greatness. Everytime I try to view a Flash Form it gets stuck at 40% loading and just sits there. Is there anyone out there that knows how to solve this problem?
Just for the record I’m using FireFox 1.5 BEAT 1 and Flash BETA 8.

    Tony,
    Thanks for the feedback.
I’m not sure why it isn’t working for you. I did much of my development work using FF 1.5 alpha 2 and then beta 1 using the flash player 8 beta. (some using IE and FP 7) In fact, I just tested the site using FF 1.5 beta and the full release of FP8 and it worked fine for me. You may want to do a full uninstall of Firefox and a reinstall of it and the player. You shouldn’t loose your FF settings.
I originally built the site using pure html forms with almost no layout. I then converted the forms over to flashforms since it looked better and I needed the practice. If you want me to manually enter the data into the system for you and send you the results, pass me an email at ryan@kcfusion.org with your phone number.
So far I am happy with the number of users (20+ registered). I am a bit annoyed by the 5 people who put in blatantly false information, what disturbs me is how little information people are submitting. I spent a lot of time adding fields for personal interests, are you bringing a notebook computer, etc. so that people would have a way to pick a roommate they would be compatible with. Sadly, most aren’t even submitting their first name!
Oh well, so far a number of people have found a roommate so it has been worthwhile.

Love the concept.. Im surprised there isnt some kind of national website that matches people up with roommates for ANY kind of event – show – concert – whatever.. maybe a good idea for a site – I could think of a ton of "spin-off" features that would be great..
I did notice that this app adds your name to the database before you’ve even finished filling out your profile / preferences.. maybe it could wait till the end?

Those five people probably wanted to see, just your application. Maybe you should create a guest account? I wanted to see it as well … but in the end didn’t bother registering with dumby information.
