ImageTrend Uses ColdFusion Powered Flash To Save Lives

ImageTrend is an innovative software development company with an impressive track record.

ImageTrend recently completed work on a powerful electronic patient records system called the ImageTrend Hospital Dashboard, a system that is bridging the information and communications gap between first responders and emergency room physicians. The Hospital Dashboard which manages millions of patient records and addresses HIPAA data privacy standards, is built using a ColdFusion backend and a Flash client, as explained in this case study.

ColdFusion Powers American Library Association

The American Library Association was founded in 1876 during the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, with the goal of providing leadership for the development, promotion, and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all. I stumbled upon the ALA site while reading up on this year's Morris Award finalists, and was delighted to see that the ALA site is powered by ColdFusion.

XM Radio Canada is powered by ColdFusion. Last week XM Radio Canada upgraded to ColdFusion 9, and also rolled out a new Flash based online player and an iPhone app called XMRO, both of which are powered by ColdFusion 9 on the back-end.

InformationWeek: Defense Info Agency Open-Sources Its Web Apps And Encourages ColdFusion Use

InformationWeek is running a story about how The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA, which provides IT services to the Department of Defense) is making its internally developed suite of administrative and workflow applications available to other government agencies as open source software. The Open Source Content Management Information System (OSCMIS) comprises more than 50 Web applications, including workforce management, automated workflow, learning management, balanced scorecard, and telework management. The applications are all built in ColdFusion, and going forward, DISA wants to encourage use of and training in ColdFusion, even starting with kids in high school to get them interested in software development as a career.

Belgian software company Proxyclick positions itself as a "life improvement platform". Their primary application is ColdFusion powered Click'n Lunch and is used by employees at lots of local companies (including Microsoft Belgium) to order lunch and more. And the app just won the B2B BeCommerce Award 2009.

I discovered this one while in Seattle this week. Virginia Mason Medical Center is an award-winning, private, not-for-profit organization offering a network of primary and specialty care clinics throughout the Puget Sound region and a hospital in Seattle. And their website, including the staff portal, is all powered by ColdFusion 8.

ColdFusion Helps Calculate Wedding Costs

This one sent to me by Shane McMurray, founder of The Wedding Report, Inc. Cost of Wedding attempts to help couples budget and plan wedding costs. While the list of items that "are included in the average wedding cost or wedding budget" definitely raised my eyebrows, the site is simple, focused, intuitive, and was ranked #14 in The 75 Best Wedding Web Sites on Brides magazine's brides.com. And, of course, the site is fully powered by ColdFusion.

ColdFusion Powers Health And Human Services Award Winning girlshealth.gov

girlshealth.gov was created to help girls (ages 10-16) learn about health, growing up, and issues they may face. It focuses on health topics that girls are concerned about and helps motivate them to choose healthy behaviors by using positive, supportive, and non-threatening messages. The site gives girls reliable, useful information on the health issues they will face as they become young women and tips on handling relationships with family and friends, at school and at home. girlshealth.gov is a project of the U.S. Department of Health &Human Services' Office on Women's Health, and was the Health Improvement Institute's Aesculapius Award 2008 Award of Excellence. And the site is completely powered by ColdFusion.

ColdFusion Powered U.K. Government Site Wins Award

U.K. based OWL allows police to work with neighborhood watch groups, communicating directly with the public via email, phone, fax, SMS, print, and publishing to the OWL website. It features a contact management system to manage tens of thousands of contacts, and it ties into the Royal Mail database. The site is geographically aware and supports location and proximity based searches. The public can log in to manage their own data, all managed by integrated security. The entire system is built in ColdFusion. And they have announced that the application has been awarded an e-Government National Award from the British Government.

Boston University Build Facebook-Like Site In ColdFusion

Mass High Tech is running a story about how "The Boston University School of Management has launched its own private version of Facebook to encourage student networking while reducing potentially embarrassing situations" As per the story, "The system was developed by one programmer over nine weeks using Adobe Inc.'s ColdFusion". Nice!

The Flip Powered By ColdFusion And Flex

The Flip products are wonderful, small portable super-friendly video cameras (my 10 year old is becoming a budding director thanks to one he just got). The Flip website uses Flex in various places, including for designing your own Flip Mino. And then when you checkout, the online store is powered by ColdFusion 8.
