More On ColdFusion Builder Express

I mentioned ColdFusion Builder Express last week, here are some more details courtesy of the engineering team.

April 27, 2011

ColdFusion Builder 2 Express Edition

When we release ColdFusion Builder 2, we'll also be releasing a free lightweight version of the tool called ColdFusion Express. Here is the description as per the the engineering manager:

When you start ColdFusion Builder, you are prompted to enter the product serial number. When you enter a valid product serial number, activation happens in the background the first time the software detects an Internet connection.

If you do not enter the product serial number when you start ColdFusion Builder, you can use the trial version of the full-featured ColdFusion Builder 2.0 for 60 days. After the trial expires, you need to purchase a license to continue using all the features. If not, ColdFusion Builder switches to a feature-limited Express Edition. With the Express Edition, you can continue to use ColdFusion Builder with basic features such as editor, code assist, and syntax highlighting. But the key features such as code assist for extensions, code insight, extension callbacks, connection to remote server, quick fix, debugging remote projects, refactoring, ColdFusion search, code formatting, FTP support, log viewer, local file browser, code hyperlinks, and hover help are not available in the Express Edition of ColdFusion Builder. You can convert the Express Edition to a full-featured version by purchasing the license and specifying the product serial number.

Check Out Airgile

Airgile is a simple online project management system with a very clean and professional Flex based front-end. Airgile is inexpensive, actually it's free for a single project with up to 4 users, and paid plans start at just €6. And a connector for Eclipse / Flash Builder / ColdFusion Builder (using Mylyn) is in the works, too.

eWeek: 10 Hottest Adobe Labs Projects

eWeek has listed their Top 10 Hottest Projects on Adobe Labs. I'm particularly proud of the top 3. #1 is Adobe AIR Launchpad (created by our own evangelist team), #2 is Packager for iPhone (yep, some people apparently really want to build apps for iOS), and #3 is ColdFusion Builder 2.

ColdFusion Builder 2 Public Beta Released

Back when we first announced ColdFusion Builder, we explained that we planned to revise the tool more frequently than we do ColdFusion itself. And now the public beta of ColdFusion Builder 2 is on Adobe Labs. ColdFusion engineering team member Ramchandra Kulkarni has posted an ADC article entitled What's new in ColdFusion Builder 2.

Help With ColdFusion Builder Projects And Configuration

Lots has already been written and taught on getting started with ColdFusion Builder (I recorded an Adobe TV segment on the subject over a year ago). But, many users do still run into issues getting ColdFusion Builder configured and ready to use, and so Adobe Technical Writer Anand Shekar BC has posted an entry and video entitled Learn how to setup a project and configure web server in ColdFusion Builder.

ColdFusion 9 Book Volume 1 Available

I meant to mention this a couple of weeks ago, but was buried, and it just slipped my mind. So ...

Adobe ColdFusion 9 Web Application Construction Kit, Volume 1: Getting Started is shipping and in stores. All the details you need are on the book page (including the very first errata entry, just received, which is what reminded me to make this post).

The books did not ship with ColdFusion 9 and we wanted to wait until ColdFusion Builder was releases so we could include coverage of this important new tool. So, later than we'd have liked, but Volume 1 is finally available, and Volumes 2 and 3 are due out shortly.

ColdFusion 9 Extensions For Dreamweaver

A user just asked me whether we'd be releasing ColdFusion 9 language support for Dreamweaver, which reminded me that among all of the recent discussion relating to ColdFusion Builder, many users do indeed use Dreamweaver for ColdFusion development, and will continue to do so.

Yes, we did release ColdFusion 9 extensions for Dreamweaver. You can download the MXP from the ColdFusion Support Center Downloads page. That same page also contains links to the Report Builder, additional ColdFusion server components, SOLR installers, and more.

Tell Us What You Think About ColdFusion Builder

ColdFusion Builder has been out for a few weeks now, and lots of initial comments and thoughts are in. Some think it should have been given away for free, others think the price is more than fair. Some think it's missing key features, others think it's already making them more productive. And on and on and on.

One thing that we can all agree on is that ColdFusion Builder is a v1.0 product with lots of potential, which is why the team is already working on the next version. And to help drive that version, they'd like your feedback via an online survey.

And Now Adobe Labs Is On Twitter, Too

Following the announcement yesterday that the ColdFusion Builder team was on Twitter, here comes Adobe Labs already tweeting away.

HTML Formatter Does A Really Nice Job With CFML

HTML Formatter is a little utility that does one thing and does it well, it formats your code, both HTML and CFML. It's fast, it's a cinch to use, it can be used with ColdFusion Builder as well as Dreamweaver and other tools, and it just works. And starting at just $9, this one is well worth a look at!
