I meant to mention this a couple of weeks ago, but was buried, and it just slipped my mind. So ...

Adobe ColdFusion 9 Web Application Construction Kit, Volume 1: Getting Started is shipping and in stores. All the details you need are on the book page (including the very first errata entry, just received, which is what reminded me to make this post).

The books did not ship with ColdFusion 9 and we wanted to wait until ColdFusion Builder was releases so we could include coverage of this important new tool. So, later than we'd have liked, but Volume 1 is finally available, and Volumes 2 and 3 are due out shortly.

Hi Ben,

How similar is the CF9 WACK volume 1 to the CF 8 version? is there more CF9 specific stuff in it or is it primarily focused on being an intro to new users?

Larry,

As we did with the CF8 books, Volume 1 is very much targeted at new CF users (we did that so that experienced users would not need to buy lots of content they may not need). Volume 1 has indeed been update for CF9, and includes CF Builder coverage, but I'd still recommend it primarily to new CF users, and not to existing and more experienced users. They'd want Volumes and 3.

@Aaron, I'm one of those people who really prefers having the physical book with me. I've tried the Kindle and the Sony e-book reader, but they just don't work for me.

Actually one book I'd love to see published would be a CF9 updater - where the focus is on the new features of CF9, rather than being the be all and end all of CF books. I think that John Farrar's CF8 Tutorial went a long way towards this. Also Ben's CF Study Guides also were very good in that regard.

The link that says "ColdFusion 8 books are now available" in the entry page of this site has not been updated. There is a reference to the first CF 9 book once you click that link, but not even in the main text.
I agree with the views here. A proper CF 9 book is due.

Paulo, very valid criticism. FWIW, I have been s-l-o-w-l-y working on a new site, a complete (and long overdue) overhaul (no more lots of nested tables circa 1990, all nice new CSS, etc.), and so I was not updating pages as frequently as I am also updating those new ones. But, that's been taking way longer than I'd have liked, so I'll prioritize the changes on the current site. Thanks for the nudge.

abhijit, the publisher declined to update the CF Study Guides for CF8 or CF9. I had planned (and still plan) to update these anyway and post them online, but I have thus far not gotten around to it. Having said that, honestly, the best way to prep for and pass the exam is to simply use ColdFusion, try all features, and build apps. Users with real world ColdFusion experience generally find the exam to be quite passable.
