ColdFusion 8 ships with an embedded Apache Derby engine, which is used by the ColdFusion example applications, and can also be used for your own applications (and indeed, is used for all example applications in the CF8 edition of ColdFusion Web Application Construction Kit).
Information on Apache Derby can be hard to come by. And so Charlie Arehart has started compiling Apache Derby resources (from a ColdFusion perspective).
